What is lead?
Lead is a toxic metal that was used for many years in products found in and
around our homes most commonly found in the paint in homes built prior to 1978. Lead also can be emitted into the air from motor vehicles and industrial sources, and lead can enter drinking water from plumbing materials.
What are the health risks associated with lead exposure?
It does not matter if a person breathes-in, swallows, or absorbs lead particles, the health effects are the same; however, the body absorbs higher levels of lead when it is breathed-in. Within our bodies, lead is absorbed and stored in our bones, blood, and tissues. It does not stay there permanently, rather it is stored there as a source of continual internal exposure. As we age, our bones demineralize and the internal exposures may increase as a result of larger releases of lead from the bone tissue. Lead may cause a range of health effects, from behavioral problems and learning disabilities, to seizures and death. Children six years old and under are most at risk.

Beginning April 22, 2010, federal law requires that contractors performing renovation, repair and painting projects that disturb more than six square feet of paint in homes, child care facilities, and schools built before 1978 must be certified and trained to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination. Elite Restoration Construction Services is certified by the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and fully trained to handle the presence of lead safely and worry free by following the rules set forth in EPA RRP (Renovation, Repair Painting) Certification.
